What Matters To You
The way I like to meditate is by closing my eyes, sitting still, and just thinking about nothing. Then I observe where my mind wanders. This tells me everything I need to know about really matters to me in the present moment.
The most immediate thoughts might be short-term stressors, like work I need to get done, an awkward moment I’m embarrassed about, or a tough conversation I will need to have soon. But once those are unraveled, deeper truths lie beneath the surface: unfulfilled intentions, impulsive desires, and unrealized fears. Things I was not consciously aware of, but in hindsight were influencing my thoughts and decisions all along.
