New Environments

Your environment has such a huge impact on your growth. Most of the growth in my life has taken place in new environments. I did not really grow as a person at all in the first 17 years of my life because I spent all of them at home. Interestingly, even after achieving growth in a new environment, it is often the case that returning to an older environment brings an urge to fall back into older habits. It’s as if we take on completely different identities all based on what’s around us.

A positive takeaway from this is that you can reverse-engineer your life by deliberately constructing your environment. Spending time with optimistic people will make you optimistic. Living with ambitious people will make you ambitious, as you will observe their behavior every day. What you choose to be around is often just as important as how you choose to act.
