Overplayed
I live near Times Square, and sometimes when I am walking home in the evenings I will have to cross through it during the busiest hours. It is interesting to see tourists from all over the world excited to explore the neighborhood for the first time, but for me it is an everyday walk home. I don’t know how exactly to describe the emotion, but I get this weird feeling knowing that at one point Times Square also seemed magical to me, and now it’s just part of my commute.
To me this emotion seems similar to, say, overplaying a song. It seems inevitable: you find a song you really like, you play it all the time, but one day you realize you’ve heard it a hundred times and now you’re sick of it. This is also the case in many other parts of my life. No matter the initial joy, if you repeat something enough, you’ll eventually overplay it. I don’t know if that’s a sad thing or not.
