Belief vs. Reality
Your mind is really capable of believing anything you tell it. Today my train was delayed, but in a weird way I didn’t feel frustrated. I have been very overwhelmed the past few days, so to me, the delay provided an additional 20 minutes to just sit still in peace. What one might consider an objectively negative situation ended up becoming a positive one in my eyes. But I always possess this option to decide whether any situation is positive or negative, albeit to varying extents. When taken to the extreme, some might consider this mindset as delusional, or out of touch with reality. But what is reality, if not merely our own perception of the world we live in?
Your beliefs and reality are really the same thing! Reality is whatever you believe it to be. Maybe there is some objective reality out there with canonical classifications of “good” and “bad”, but none of us are capable of perceiving this because all we ever get to see is the projection of reality onto our own beliefs. This means that we have control over the reality we live in. Not in the sense that I could make my train appear 20 minutes earlier, but rather that the effects of the delay are whatever I believe them to be. I can interpret every event as “good” and therefore my life will be a “good” one, whereas that same life could be “bad” if I take on a different belief system. In both cases what really happens is a constant that I cannot control. But the beauty is in that I never needed control over that in the first place.
