It Doesn't Take That Long

I sometimes neglect very important parts of my daily routine because I overestimate how long they will take. Writing these daily posts is a perfect example. At some point this summer I just felt like each one took too long. But that’s not true at all. Each post takes around 10 minutes to write, and never more than 15. I also underestimate the importance of maintaining such habits. I didn’t write for roughly 80 days in a row, and assuming each post requires 10 minutes on average that only amounts to a little over 13 hours. But I became so much worse at writing over those 80 missed days. I definitely could not gain that skill back by sitting down for the equivalent 13 hours back-to-back and just grinding out freeform essays. The value was in the consistency, which I totally missed. Maintaining (or even improving) my writing skill required only 0.7% of my day, but every day. Now I regret not paying that relatively miniscule cost.
