Prestige

When you chase prestige, your peers tend to be people with similar levels of prestige. If they’re also partaking in this chase, it’s likely you’ll hear a lot about how you need to get the next thing. The issue is this situation is invariant regardless of how far you come.

This chase doesn’t really have a happy ending. The only way prestige is validating is if you have it and others don’t. But by design, in the pursuit of prestige everyone else around you will always have similar (or even more) prestige. So how can you ever feel fulfilled?
